Bloomfield Strengthens its Position as a Livable Community for Working People

At its most recent meeting, the Bloomfield Town Plan and Zoning Commission cleared the way for the first phase of the First Cathedral affordable housing to begin construction. Approved were 92 affordable units that will be marketed to working class people making at or below 70% of area median income. This means, depending on housing size, families earning less than $80K a year will have access to brand new apartments with options ranging from studios to 3 bedrooms.

Among the 92 approved units were 3 studios, 46 1-bedroom units, 41 2-bedroom units, and 2 3-bedroom units. Amenities will include community gathering spaces, a walking trail, libraries, and laundry facilities.  All while incorporating leading edge green engineering.

This will be a significant increase to the percentage of homes in our town that are affordable based on their status as either government-subsidized housing, CHFA/usda mortgages, or deed-restricted units. This development by The First Cathedral signifies a deep commitment and investment in working class families including teachers, emergency responders, and service workers. Special thanks to The First Cathedral and all parties involved for making this development happen and investing in Bloomfield.
