“Mayor Goodman was among the most effective, admired, and respected mayors in the history of Bloomfield.” Former Mayor Joe Suggs
“Mayor Goodman and I served together on the Bloomfield Town Council as Mayor and Deputy Mayor. When he resigned in 1983 I filled his remaining term. I considered him my mentor, and we were extremely close friends as well. In my opinion, he was one of the most astute and visionary mayors in Bloomfield’s history. He was a major supporter of a professional staff, headed by a qualified professional manager, who worked closely with Town Council to implement policy. He was able to foster a close alliance with the business community, which resulted in the initiation of the Bloomfield Sunset Sounds Concert Series in cooperation with CIGNA.
He oversaw major expansion and construction in Bloomfield and was extremely involved in regional and state politics as well. He was an extremely social and outgoing person who was loved by Bloomfield residents who admired his intellect and governing skills.
I will always be grateful for his mentorship and support. Dick was a ‘good man’ as his name reflects and his legacy will endure as an example of good government and dedication to Bloomfield as a leading community that welcomed people of all backgrounds to live and work together in unity for the betterment of our town.” Former Mayor David Baram
“I knew Dick when he was Mayor but also as a neighbor. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile for everyone he was in contact with. His warm, kind, friendly personality seemed to project into everyone he was with. At the same time, his knowledge of Bloomfield and wisdom in leading the Town brought admiration from all towns in contact with us. I was shocked to hear of his passing but know he will live on in the fabric and essence of our beloved Town.” Former Mayor Syd Schulman
